Twenty-seven seconds in and there is still nothing underneath Belle Humble. No sub at all, just her voice and some midrange hanging in open space. Then beastboi. drops the bottom in and it lands like a breaker being thrown.
That switch is what the whole remix runs on. It sits at 140 with a halftime pulse, and beastboi. treats the sub as something he can turn off at will. After the first drop he pulls it out completely and lets Belle Humble carry almost half a minute with no weight under her. On a Never Say Die release, where the easy call is to keep the floor rumbling, that takes nerve.
Around the 1:54 mark he cuts everything. Close to a full second of dead air on a track that runs 2:51. Then at 2:00 comes the move that got me. Everything above the bass disappears for a beat and you are left holding raw sub with no top end at all. The heaviest hit lands nine seconds later.
The last stretch surprised me more. No final drop, just the high end stripped off in stages until the track sounds like it is playing through a wall. Belle Humble was fronting a progressive house record in this archive back in 2016, on Tom Swoon’s Phoenix, and producers have been building up around her ever since. beastboi. spends this one taking things away from her, and her voice only gets bigger for it.
