Most deep house that reaches for a holiday mood settles into a hammock and stays there. ARTO does not let this one settle. ‘Lost in Cancún’ keeps a low, walking pulse under all that warmth, and every time it should go slack it tightens back up instead.
The groove is the whole thing here. A rounded bassline keeps stepping forward while a few sun-bleached chords float over the top. There is enough space between the hits that the track breathes, and it never rushes to a drop. It just deepens, one loop at a time, and by the second pass I stopped waiting for a payoff and let the loop be the payoff. It is a track for the drive home when the sky is still purple and the road is empty.
ARTO lands this one through Armada Music, and it is the first time the name has turned up in our pages, so the ARTO tag sits bare for now. On the strength of this groove I doubt it stays that way.
Out now via Armada Music. What sticks with me is the restraint. A track named after a party town could have gone loud and obvious, and ARTO instead trusts a patient groove to carry the whole thing.
