camoufly – Ultramoon

camoufly - Ultramoon

The drums hit halftime and my head starts nodding before I have decided to let it. camoufly builds Ultramoon on a kick and snare that leave air between every hit, so the groove rocks you side to side instead of shoving you forward. This is the Extended Mix, so you get more of that pocket up front before the lead crashes the gate.

Then the drop. A wall of detuned supersaws pitched up bright, with a chopped vocal snapping in on the offbeat. Underneath it a sidechain pump makes the whole thing breathe, like it is gasping for air between kicks. Loud and pretty at once, which is the trick future bass keeps reaching for and mostly fumbles. camoufly lands it. The second half stacks another lead on top, and that is the part that got me, the hands-up moment for a sunset set.

camoufly works the bright, melodic end of bass, and Ultramoon arrived via Future House Music. There is not a deep camoufly catalogue on the site yet, so the camoufly tag is the spot to keep an eye on as more of it lands.

Extended mixes usually just pad the intro for DJs and call it a day. This one earns the extra runtime by giving that second drop room to build. That patience is the whole reason it hits as hard as it does.

About Jackson Settles

Jackson lives in the low end: trap, dubstep, drum and bass, riddim, anything that hits in the chest. He covers the drops other writers are scared of, and he means it when he says a track goes hard. Loud is a compliment.
