DAIRE and Lightforce meet in the middle of “Join Me,” and the seam between them is where the record earns its keep. One of them keeps a hand on the melody, patient and a little sad, while the other pushes the low end forward, and neither crowds the other out. It reads like two producers who settled on the feeling before they touched the arrangement.
The build is the whole point. It holds back longer than you expect, letting the pads stretch and the tension pool before anything resolves, and when the lift finally comes it does not shout, it just opens. I sat through that stretch three times before I let myself exhale with it. That patience is the trance move I keep coming back for, the sense that the peak was withheld on purpose so it would mean something when it lands.
This is the first time DAIRE lands in the bythewavs archive, arriving through Armada Music with more restraint than a first appearance usually allows itself. The track belongs to the last hour of a night, the point where the room has thinned out and the people still there are the ones who came for exactly this.
What stays with me is how little the two of them try to win. “Join Me” is content to build slowly and let you feel the difference when it lifts, and that kind of confidence is rarer in trance right now than it should be.
