Tech house gives you almost nothing to hide behind. Danny P builds “Back Around” from a kick, a taut low end, and a single vocal phrase, trusting that one phrase to stay interesting on its fortieth pass. The title is a tell. Everything here comes back around.
It stays interesting. The bass sits low and elastic, bending under a chopped vocal that keeps folding into itself until it reads less like a sample and more like a pulse. No breakdown arrives to rescue you, no melodic reveal waiting at the eight-bar mark. The groove only tightens each time around, and that tension carries the whole song.
IN / ROTATION put it out, and it is the first Danny P record to reach our corner of the bythewavs archive. I came to it blind, no history with the artist, and came away sold on the groove alone.
This is a 2am cut, built for the hour when the only people still out are the ones who came for the drums. Early in a set it would pass without a second look. In the late slot, that circling vocal stops sounding like a loop and starts sounding like the room agreeing with itself.
