No feature credit on this one, no split billing. Dion Timmer takes both halves of BE URS himself, the sweet part and the mean part, and the seam between them is where the record earns its keep.
The vocal enters gently and keeps circling back to be be yours until the phrase stops reading as a lyric and starts working as a percussion hit. That is the setup. Then the drop lands with a mid growl that chews straight through the pretty stuff, and the vocal keeps poking out from under it like it never agreed to leave. That switch got a laugh out of me. Rude, no apology.
Timmer writes more melody than most of the Uncaged roster, which is why the heavy stretches hit harder here than they would from a producer who only makes heavy. He has been in this archive a long time, back to the Textacy EP, and the same instinct runs through this one. Write something you could actually sing, then wreck it on purpose. It landed on Uncaged this week.
Save it for late in a set, after an hour of getting beaten on, when the crowd needs a tune in the middle of the damage. The second drop is the one I keep going back for, and the hook was still in my head long after I closed the tab.
