Four bars in, I had this pegged as a roller. Something smooth that would hold one groove for five minutes and let me stop paying attention. The drums had other plans.
DJ Airwalk chops the break on “Flights to Catch” into confetti and keeps it in the air. There is no tidy two-step to lean on. Snares land early. Then late. Then twice where you only wanted one. The kit reshuffles itself every bar while the sub underneath refuses to move an inch, and on headphones that low end reads as one long held note.
That is the whole trick. Wall on the bottom, mayhem on top. The four-bar loop keeps rebuilding itself enough that I lost my place in it more than once, which almost never happens to me. Plush Recordings put it out today and he has no other entry under his own name here so far.
It runs five minutes and forty seconds. For drums this busy that is a real swing, since most people would be out of ideas by three. This one is still pulling itself apart at the end.
