The kick lands about three seconds in and the next fifty-odd seconds give your heels no reason to touch the floor. dj try and Pagan allow no runway on Thinking Of You. It moves at 143 bpm from a standing start, and a sixteenth-note figure runs under the lead that keeps you shifting even when the melody holds still.
The shape of it is what got me. Three blocks of thirty-two bars, near enough equal, and the middle one takes the kick out completely. That break runs just under a minute, and the top end opens a little further across every bar of it, so the brightening never once announces itself.
The symmetry splits me. Three equal panels is a tidy way to build a trance record, and tidy is not always what I want at 143 bpm. The return at 1:51 settles it. That drop hits because the section before left you nothing but a rising top end and made you wait out the ascent.
Musical Freedom put it out at two minutes and forty-nine seconds, where a track this committed to its build would once have been handed seven. I plan to keep an eye on the dj try page here to see how that trade wears. On this one it works. Nothing in the arc reads as cut, only tightened.
