Don Toliver’s hook on Body never lands where you expect it to. He drags the vowels, lets the line smear across the bar, and manages to sound half asleep and completely sure of himself at the same time. AYDO8 leaves that vocal exactly where it sits and rebuilds the whole room underneath it.
That is the call I respect. The original rides a Justin Timberlake “Rock Your Body” sample, so the bounce was already baked in, all hips and no weight. AYDO8 drops the floor out from under it. The drums go halftime and the sub settles in low, and Toliver’s voice quits being a pop hook and starts hitting you in the sternum. Same words. Different room entirely.
Body came off Octane back in January with Travis Scott among the producers, and it got the single push. Nothing on his bythewavs hub yet, so consider that gap officially open.
Flips like this one live or die on restraint, and AYDO8 knew what not to touch. He left the vocal whole and put every bit of the work in the low end. That is the harder version of the job, and almost nobody picks it.
