The first thirty seconds had me convinced Felguk were going to play this one clean. Tidy kick, a little air up top. The setup for a well-mannered house record. Then the low end kicks the door in and none of that politeness survives. ‘Money Stash’ is the Brazilian duo back in bass house mode on Future House Music.
The drop is where it turns. That bassline does not sit on the beat, it growls and buckles under itself, distorted enough that you feel it in your chest before you find the groove underneath. Felguk leave the top end sparse on purpose, so every time the bass lunges back in it lands like the first hit all over again. A short vocal stab rides the pocket and keeps the whole thing from being a straight beating.
Felguk have been at this a long time, and Money Stash sits at the meaner end of what they do. If you want the same low-slung streak with a guest in the room, their team-up with NXNJAS on Trinity works a similar dark groove.
This is a back-half-of-the-night record, for the point where the room stops being polite and everybody just wants the bass to hurt a little. Out now on Future House Music, and it is Felguk doing the thing they have always been good at.
