The credit line on ENERGY is a collision. Gordo built his lane in dark rooms and marathon club sets, and WhoMadeWho are a Copenhagen band who haul live drums onto stages built for CDJs. Now both names sit on one record, out July 17 on Maison Arts.
Nobody needs me to narrate a drop. The shape of this one is the interesting part. Gordo’s side of the scene runs on low end and groove, WhoMadeWho’s runs on melody and an actual human voice, and ENERGY tests that overlap head on. Future House Music got the extended mix first, and I am more curious about it than anything else on my desk this week.
It belongs in our house archive, the crossover corner of the lane that Gorgon City and Meduza call home. To me it reads like a sunset-slot record, the hour the sky goes orange and the club heads and the live-band heads finally end up in the same crowd. That is the crowd a track called ENERGY is for.
ENERGY is out now via Maison Arts, with the extended mix streaming below. Run it once with the volume where it belongs and see which world pulls you harder.
