Gorgon City keep calling Jem Cooke back, and I have stopped being surprised by how well it works. Oracle landed on July 17 through REALM, the imprint the duo run themselves, and it puts the two of them on the same record again.
Cooke has form here. She sang on Ecstasy and Dreams on Olympia, and what she gives a Gorgon City groove is a center of gravity. That has always been the method with these two: the record does not shout, it accumulates, and the vocal is the part you carry out of the room with you. Save this one for a rooftop late, past the point where the DJ has stopped trying to impress anybody.
They have been on this wavelength for a decade in this archive, from Here For You through Saving My Life, and REALM has become where the records meant for their own sets end up.
Out now on REALM. Go get it, and dig through the rest of their run while you are at it.
