MrSuicideSheep’s channel has always worked like a room where the name on the door does not matter much. You show up because the taste is consistent. That is how ILMA got in front of me, and Since That Day makes a decent case for the whole arrangement.
It runs to about three thirty and spends most of that refusing to get loud. Verses sit low and close, vocal out front, a soft pocket of drums underneath. Then the chorus opens up. Not a detonation, more like a room getting wider. I went back for that lift twice before I did anything else with my afternoon.
I have a soft spot for pop that trusts its topline. There is no synth pile here and no big breakdown doing the emotional work for the vocal, just a melody with space around it and enough R&B in the phrasing to keep it from going stiff. Even the cover is a borrowed photograph, credited to Andrej Lisakov, which tells you something about the scale this one is going for.
ILMA’s corner of the archive starts here with nothing behind it yet, which is its own kind of fun. Nothing about Since That Day is trying to be an event. Big songs announce themselves. This one just gets sung back.
