Picture Carl Cox walking the grounds of a French chateau, 15,000 waiting on the far side, and this is the record rolling under him. That was Chateau de Chantilly last month, minutes before his sold-out set with Mau P, and the track playing Cox in was Jeff Sorkowitz’s Move Shake. I would have taken the long way too.
It is deep tech built low and mean. A dark acid squelch that keeps curling back on itself, a bassline that just drives, percussion wound tight enough to keep it honest. What I keep landing on is how little it wastes. It does not reach for the rafters, it locks in and walks. Save it for the room at 1am, lights almost out.
Move Shake is his debut on Insomniac’s IN / ROTATION, and the first time he has run his own vocals through a track, a quiet move from someone already running the Short Circuit imprint. It lands in the same stripped tech-house lane that gave us a house cut made for Cox himself, one built for Marco Carola and Loco Dice floors.
Jeff Sorkowitz has been in the room a while, but this is the one that walks him out front. Move Shake is out now on IN / ROTATION. Go feel it in the low end.
