FLUTTER is a soft name to bolt onto a dubstep cut that lands in Monstercat’s Uncaged vault, and that mismatch got me to press play. JON CASS makes his label debut here with FADENT on the collab. A delicate title sitting on the heavy end. I clicked for the contradiction.
Uncaged is where Monstercat stashes its heaviest releases, so a debut landing there tells you the lane before a note plays. FLUTTER becomes the question the title sets up: how light can the top stay before the low end takes the whole thing over? I respect a debut that walks in asking that instead of easing you in.
JON CASS and FADENT put this out on June 8 next to JON CASS’s solo STEP OUT, a two-track hello with no filler. Both artists are fresh faces around here, so this is the ground floor. Start their archives at the JON CASS hub and the FADENT page, and watch where they take it.
Save it for the rig that can actually push the sub, not laptop speakers doing their best impression of one. Out now on Monstercat Uncaged. The name says FLUTTER. Nothing about the way it lands is that soft.
