KAIVON – To Build A Home

KAIVON - To Build A Home

Something about the swing gets into your hips before you have agreed to any of it. KAIVON leaves a beat of open space after every kick, and your body leans in on the hit, then drifts through the gap waiting for the next one. First time through I realized I had been moving for a full minute without noticing.

This is the softer, sadder end of melodic bass. The build takes its time, layering melody until the whole thing feels heavy with it, and then the drop opens into one enormous lead that sounds like it is trying not to cry. The bass sits low and round under it, more felt than heard. When the second drop brings the drums up full, it drops the prettiness and just hits.

It came out through MrSuicideSheep, the channel that has quietly kept this melodic corner of bass music alive for years, so a KAIVON track finding a home there makes sense. This is the first KAIVON cut on the site, and the KAIVON tag is where anything new from him will show up.

It belongs at the point in a set where a crowd wants one more song that hits and aches in the same breath. A track that can pull a room full of headbangers still for a second is doing something most drops never get near.

About Jackson Settles

Jackson lives in the low end: trap, dubstep, drum and bass, riddim, anything that hits in the chest. He covers the drops other writers are scared of, and he means it when he says a track goes hard. Loud is a compliment.
