Krewella built a career on the vocal, the hook you scream back at the stage, so the first thing I noticed on Something Sacred is what they left out. The Yousaf sisters mostly step back and let a relentless bassline do the talking, and that restraint is the whole reason the track works. Peak-hour melodic techno from an act that did not have to make it.
The build is all tension. Tremolo-gated, staccato synths flicker and stutter over the low end, never quite resolving, holding you in that suspended place a good melodic record lives in. When it opens up the relief is real, and the bassline underneath never lets go. I have gone back to that drop more than once just to feel it land, hands up before I decided to put them there.
It is a departure, plainly, and a confident one. Set it next to the New World, Pt. 1 EP or a cut like Be There and you hear how far they have walked from the festival sound. The rest of their run backs that up, self-released on their own Mixed Kids imprint.
