Kryder – Ascension

Kryder - Ascension

Acid lines age strange. Wielded wrong they sound like a museum piece, wielded right they sound like memory itself, and on Ascension Kryder gets it right. The house-circuit veteran turns back toward proper trance here, and the gentle acid touches are the tell that he means the old-school kind.

It moves at an unhurried 132, more journey than sprint. The melody is the thing I sat with, warm and a little wistful, the sort that earns its peak instead of just arriving at it. The acid bubbles low in the mix, never showy, and then the break clears space for a vocal that floats over the top without pinning itself down to words. It is the part of the record that opens up, and it is the whole reason to stay through to the end. This is a late-drive record, the long empty road where you let the volume sit higher than it should and the melody does the rest.

This is one piece of a heavy 2026 for Kryder, a four-record run on Black Hole. If you know his harder festival side it is worth hearing him this patient, and it sits next to his Treasured Soul remix and the rest of the Kryder archive.

Ascension is out now, released May 29 on Black Hole Recordings as part of the label’s Week 22 run. Put it on for the long drive and let it carry you.

About Jeremy Dentelstein

Jeremy writes the longer pieces: melodic techno and house, the deep and the emotional, plus interviews and the occasional deep dive. He listens for the build before the drop and the feeling after it, and would rather sit with a track for a week than rush a verdict.
