Techno producers who decide to write songs usually give something up to do it. Destiny is Layton Giordani’s attempt, with Camden Cox on the vocal, and it is the first time the two of them have worked together.
It came out on MADMINDS through Armada back in February, 129 BPM, sitting in the melodic house and techno lane rather than the harder rooms Giordani usually plays. What interests me is the direction it points. The label framed it as a step toward lyric-led writing for him, an underground producer making room for a topline instead of treating a vocal as texture, and Cox is a good person to try that with. Save it for the last train home, when the night is over and you are somehow still in it.
She has been through here before, on Embody’s Dreamin’. Giordani has not, which says more about our coverage of the techno end than it does about him.
