Most of what lands on Monstercat’s Uncaged side wants to take your head off in the first eight bars. WHIPLASH got filed as deep dubstep instead, and that tag is doing real work.
Deep dubstep is the older convention, the one that trusts weight over screech. Sub does the talking, and half the bar gets left empty on purpose. Putting Skybreak on that is the funny part, because his instinct has always been to cram every gap with glitched, hyper-detailed design. Restraint is not a word I have ever reached for with him.
longstoryshort keeps switching lanes. The other longstoryshort track in the archive here is I Can Feel, a bass house cut on JustUS, and it has almost nothing in common with this one beyond a producer who knows where the low end belongs in a mix.
I want this late in a set, an hour deep, after the tearout has already flattened the room and what is left needs weight rather than noise. Out now on Monstercat Uncaged. Deep dubstep makes a producer leave space and then answer for whatever fills it, and watching Skybreak take that deal is what I am still turning over.
