Nothing on this cover prepares you for the piano. It is a bare vinyl label on black, halftone speckle, SIDE A stamped at the rim, the look of a white label promo nobody bothered to make a sleeve for. Then the record starts and Lumine has no interest in that kind of reserve.
Here For Us runs at 140, and the bassline underneath it came out of a different party: speed garage, springy, a little rude. The piano on top is doing the exact opposite, big and open and nakedly euphoric. That argument is the whole record, and the piano wins by a nose. I had it on over the kitchen speakers doing nothing in particular and caught myself standing there with my hands up.
Lumine is Jesse Klinkhamer, 21 and Dutch, and this started as a late-night demo his management sent to Tiesto’s team on a whim. He told Beatportal that the reply from Musical Freedom was “Super sick!!! When do you expect to have the full version?” His bythewavs archive starts here.
Piano trance keeps circling back, usually with a wink, usually worn as costume. There is no wink here. Lumine found a bassline nobody was putting under chords like these and let the two of them fight it out.
