Two names share this one, and you can hear where each set of hands landed. Matty Ralph carries the melody and the ache in it, the part that wants to break open. JOKESONYOU works underneath, shaping the pressure and the long climb before anything lifts. Heaven is the point where those two jobs meet.
The build is the whole story here. It holds back longer than most trance records have the nerve to, letting the pads stack and the vocal hang in the air until you are almost impatient for the release. Then it lifts, and that impatience turns out to be the point. This is a sunrise-set record, the one that lines up with the sky going pale at the edges and the field around you going quiet.
It arrives on Musical Freedom, a label better known for the bigger, brighter end of dance music, so a trance cut with this much restraint reads as a turn. Neither name has shown up in the archive before this, which makes Matty Ralph’s page a short read for now, a starting line more than a history.
A lot of trance reaches for the ceiling in the first minute and has nowhere left to go. Heaven waits, and it earns the ceiling when it finally gets there.
