The percussion hits first, a dry clipped shuffle that keeps knocking while a low synth line prowls underneath. Millero, Derun and The Anahit built ‘Bite It’ around that tension, and they are in no hurry to let it snap.
The vocal is the sly part. It slinks in low and close, more suggestion than hook, and it never tips into the big obvious payoff you keep bracing for. The brooding synths swell and recede instead, dragging the pressure up a notch on every pass, and the groove holds that line the way a good DJ holds a room right before he lets it go.
It lands on IN / ROTATION, the indie dance and nu disco imprint where a dark groove gets to stay dark and a little tech-house muscle is welcome underneath. Neither Millero, Derun nor The Anahit had turned up on the bythewavs archive before this, and I have already gone back for another listen, which is the surest sign a record got to me.
Out now on IN / ROTATION. What stays with me is the restraint, the way the track keeps its best card face down and trusts you to lean in for it.
