Oliver Heldens, Sam Harper – Satisfy

Oliver Heldens, Sam Harper - Satisfy

Oliver Heldens spent the middle of the last decade turning that squelchy, metallic future-house bass into a main-stage language, Gecko and Koala and a hundred copycats in his wake. Satisfy, his new one with Sam Harper on his own Heldeep Records, is Heldens back in that exact lane instead of chasing whatever the tent wants this season.

The bass does the Heldens thing, rubbery and a little cartoonish, bouncing on the offbeat while a bright vocal keeps it sweet up top. I like that he lets the groove settle in before the drop instead of stacking tension on it. It rolls more than it slams, which is the version of Heldens I keep going back to.

This is the sound that made his name, and if you want the cleaner blueprint, Flamingo still holds up as the reference point. Satisfy runs warmer and less peak-time, built for the warm, pre-peak stretch of a set when a crowd wants to move without getting flattened.

Sam Harper on the vocal gives it the pop lean Heldens has circled for years now. It is out on Heldeep, and mostly it is proof the guy can still make this sound feel easy.
