Partiboi69 and KETTAMA make sense together the second you hear how they split the work. The smirk is Partiboi69, that flat Australian delivery, the guy who says the stupidest possible line with a straight face. The muscle is KETTAMA, who builds a kick like he is shoving furniture across a room. Pumpin Robbie is what happens when neither of them backs off.
The version sitting here is Doherty’s extended remix, up on Future House Music this week, and extended is doing real work in that name. The intro gives a DJ room to work. The hook loops until it quits registering as language and starts working as another drum. I replayed the same eight bars four times and called it research.
Neither of them confuses a dancefloor with a listening room. KETTAMA has spent years dragging Irish rave weight into rooms with no plan for it, and Partiboi69 built a live show on being the least serious person in the building. Whatever they make next together lands on the Partiboi69 and KETTAMA page, and I want more of it.
Put it on late, once whoever is left has quit checking their phone. It plays dumb on purpose, and playing dumb well is harder than it looks. Doherty’s edit just gives it more floor to do it on.
