Melodic dubstep remixes mostly run one route. Keep whatever made the original ache, then put something with teeth where the pretty part used to resolve. Vincent runs that route on Said The Sky and Jakob Ahlbom’s “The Swell”. He runs it hard.
I did not expect him to be this rough with it. Said The Sky and Jakob Ahlbom left a wide, slow-building original, and Vincent treats all that space as runway. The bass that lands is grittier than the intro sets you up for, and the melody still sits on top of the weight instead of getting buried. That is where most of this lane falls down. Most flips go soft or go deaf.
Vincent has done this before. His flip of The Chainsmokers’ “Paris” is still in the archive, chords doing the emotional labor while the drop stayed mean. “The Swell” came out on Seeking Blue earlier this year, which is Sheepy’s own label, so the remix landing on the MrSuicideSheep channel is the label playing at home.
On a festival rail this is the kind of drop that gets a whole row leaning back early. Most remix packages exist to hand a song a heavier version of itself. This one moves its center of gravity instead, and the original survives it. I will take that over a flip that swaps the drop and calls it new.
