Cool For Me is built on one sung line, and it leans on that line hard. Everything else, the drum and bass roll and the four names on the credit, is there to hold it up. On paper a collab this crowded should be a warning. Sudley, Ekko & Sidetrack, and What Eva keep it from being one.
What I like is the restraint. The vocal stays out front, the drums roll underneath, and none of the four producers crowd the hook to prove they were in the room. It plays like a back-half-of-the-night record, the stretch after 1am when the floor has thinned to the people who came to move and a sung hook carries further than any breakdown.
There is history in it too. This is Sudley and What Eva making their first mark on Monstercat, with Ekko & Sidetrack, the brothers Jeff and Jono Hansen, as the glue between them. For a debut on the label, nobody here sounds like they are auditioning.
It landed June 12 on Monstercat Uncaged, three and a half minutes with nothing padded. What gets me is the confidence, four names deciding the vocal was enough and building only what it needed.
