Count what this record leans on. A kick, a bass that walks, a vocal murmur that never quite becomes a hook, and not much else. TeeDee called it ‘I Just Need You,’ and the title reads like a design brief. This is minimal tech house that trusts you to feel the space.
The part that gets me is how little it reaches for. Nothing here tries to be the big moment, and that restraint is the whole trick. The groove locks in early and keeps rolling, the low end doing the work while everything above stays dry. It is built for the 4am stretch, the back room after the headliner clears out, when the crowd only wants the pocket. I could sit in this groove for an hour and not want more.
This is TeeDee’s debut single on Insomniac Records, filed as minimal and tech, which is exactly what it sounds like. It lives in the same stripped, groove-first lane that Chris Lake has been mining for years, and TeeDee sounds settled there already.
‘I Just Need You’ is out now on Insomniac Records. Drop it late, keep the lights low, and let the bassline carry the room. I want to hear what TeeDee does next.
