About two thirds of the way through, the drums fall away and everything goes weightless for a few bars. That suspended stretch is where ‘Abundance’ actually lives, and Tim Schaufert holds it just long enough that you catch yourself leaning toward the return before it arrives.
The melody under it is patient the way the best melodic house records are, a synth line that keeps folding back on itself and gathering weight instead of lunging for one big moment. When the low end slides back in it does not slam, it settles, and the whole thing quietly widens. I played it three times before I realized I had, which is usually how I learn a track has its hooks in me somewhere I cannot see.
It surfaced through MrSuicideSheep, long the place unhurried records like this find an audience, and it sits in that lineage without any strain. Schaufert barely has a corner of our archive yet, and on the strength of this one that feels like an oversight.
This is a headphones-on-the-last-train-home record, or a closer for the people still on the floor when the sky starts to turn. It never hurries to tell you what it wants. It keeps opening up, one layer at a time, and trusts you to stay for the part where it finally lets go.
