The kick lands flat and even, and under it a bassline starts walking, in no rush to show its hand. That is the whole move on ‘Luxury,’ the new one from TWO BLOCKS AWAY. It holds back. Where a lot of tech house wants your hands up by the eighth bar, this one lets the groove do the pulling.
The pieces stack slow. A clipped vocal, a hat pattern that slides off the beat just enough to feel loose, then the low end swells and the room tips a few degrees. I kept waiting for it to blow open into something bigger, and it never does. That restraint is the point. It rolls.
TWO BLOCKS AWAY is a new name to me, and ‘Luxury’ came out through Future House Music. There is not much of a trail on the project yet, so the archive page here is thin for now. Off one record I already want the next.
This is late-set music, the last hour when the floor has thinned to the people who actually came to move. It does not beg. It keeps walking, and you either fall in with it or you do not.
