Future Music Festival Asia is supposed to take place in Singapore next weekend. Unfortunately, whether the event will actually take place is sadly up in the air as the police have rejected applications to hold the event there not once, but twice. Livescape Singapore which organizes the event has already sold approximately 15,000 of the 20,000 tickets, but they might have to be refunded as the police cite “serious concerns” due to the potential drug abuse at the event. If you recall, concert organizers had to cancel day three last year after six Malaysians died and another 16 were hospitalised for drug related reasons.
Livescape has submitted an appeal to Minister for Home Affairs Teo Chee Hean. They’re expecting a response by Friday. This isn’t good as the headliners for the event include Afrojack, Avicii, Fatboy Slim, and The Prodigy all whom are still promoting the event. Sadly, there are contingency plans in place as they’re expecting a huge loss with refunds. Although, they have said that they have stepped up security.
This is very close to the wire as this is an event that many people prepare well in advance. People book flights, buy hotel rooms, and have other reservations just for this festival. Hopefully, we shall see this actually happen!
