Skrux Ft. Delacey – My Love Is A Weapon

When I first heard of Skrux the name looked like a mix of Skrillex and Flux Pavilion, and so understandably I started listening to his latest release expecting my ears to be blown out with huge bass and a massive sound design. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Skrux is like neither of the aforementioned producers, and actually makes melodic dubstep. And damn he’s good at it. Featuring Delacey, the 7-minute epic “My Love Is A Weapon” begins with soothing vocals that you can sing along to if you want, but doesn’t force you to. The drop is a mix between soothing and bass-heavy, and does well to fit both of these vibes. It isn’t designed to smash the dancefloor, but can be danced to. It’s also perfect for listening on your own at home and suits many moods; relaxing times or those moments when you need a lot of bass. The three drops are all very similar, however they aren’t meant to be the centrepiece of the song – it’s meant to be appreciated as an overall unit. It’s well produced and works very well as an overall unit, which is shown by the fact that when the song finishes you only feel like it was 4 to 5 minutes long. It’s not often that just shy of 7 minutes is the perfect length for a dubstep tune, but in this case it is – and you get more to appreciate as well. Soothe yourself and have a listen.
