If you were lucky enough to find yourself at Coachella either of the last two years, wandering around the Yuma Tent, you may have noticed a giant replica Mako Disco Shark that hung from the ceiling. Not only is the majestic disco shark entertaining party-goers of Coachella, but it is making the rounds this summer at Sound Nightclub in LA, Do Not Sit On The Furniture in Miami, iCRAVE’s “Party Monsters presents PROM” party in NYC’s Times Square, and THE CLUB at Philippe in East Hampton. This summer tour is in support of the creator’s initiative in raising awareness for this endangered ocean species with a GoFundMe project, more than halfway to its goal.
Creator Kevin McHugh started this effort with hopes that a portion of the fundraiser go directly to shark conservation organizations Oceana and Shark Team One. With the support from Shark Tank‘s Daymond John, it is the mission of conservation organizations to change the public views on sharks and help us to see that these endangered species are threatened from many of our daily practices.
You can help directly at the GoFundMe webpage where there is more information about the Disco Shark and what proceeds will benefit. There is even information on how you can get yourself a keychain replica, a 24-inch scale model, or even your own 8 foot Disco Shark.
As music and disco lovers around the world, we can unite together for a great cause. If you haven’t seen the shark at Coachella, you can check it out at one of its two permanent residencies in LA or Miami!
