Everyone seems to use Soundcloud (HEY GO FOLLOW OURS!) and we were given hints from leaked emails that a paid subscription service could be headed to us later this year thanks to info from Tech Times.
It is finally official as Soundcloud’s Co-Founder and CTO Eric Wahlforss has announced this paid subscription service for later this year. While we do not have a definitive release date, there are a few details we can be sure of. According to the previously leaked info, free users will still be able to use Soundcloud for free – while subscribers will get to use it without advertisements (also giving “unlimited” music access). Extra royalties would become available under the second-tier option for users. This would be called “SoundCloud Full Catalog Subscription Service.”
The explosion of Soundcloud in the past few years as the main source for music release has had some debating the merits for business and label owners, as well as paying artists. Tech Times reports that labels would make an extra 18 cents each month on “first tier model” users and an extra 80 cents on “second tier model” users while 10% of revenue is going to the National Music Publisher’s Association.
Stay tuned for more info as we look to get a definitive start date and pricing guide.
