The Prodigy’s debut album is an Experience that needs to be had – it’s a lesson in exactly how to make hardcore breakbeat, and is duly recognised as one of the best albums of that genre of all time. And it’s a debut album. Each song sounds like it could have been released as a single by itself, but the songs that really went big (Charly, Outta Space and Everybody In The Place) are testaments to just how good The Prodigy were when they first started. Their signature sound is easy to hear, and the bass is phenomenal, especially on Jericho and Charly. Liam Howlett (the producer) wasn’t afraid to mix up styles too, with the strange mix of Reggae and fast Jungle in Wind It Up. Experience was released 23 years ago this week, and for an album that went Platinum in the UK it deserved every accolade that it got.
