Today, March 8th, is International Women’s Day. It is sad that the expected day to represent women and point out the amazing things they have done is confined to one day a year on a calendar. Nonetheless, women play a huge part in every part of society while still being under respected and under represented. The electric dance community is no exception to this rule. Artists from all over the world are seen as less important or insignificant because they are female. Well, this is being written to tell you otherwise.
Check out some of their work below.

Nap Girls
This organization is deserving on mention because their goal is to connecting woman and empowering them by encouraging their creative and professional styles. Some Nap Girls include (listened below) Mark Jones, Dani Deahl, and Rezz.

Dani Deahl
One of the more known Nap Girls. Her inability to let woman be less is amazing. Check out her TED Talk on woman in this industry and the struggles they face.

Rezz
Another Nap Girl, Rezz is passing her time dropping the occasional track on Mau5trap. I mean, even stubborn Joel is seeing the skill of this young DJ. I love her music, her vibe, and her personality. Give her a listen and try not to fall in love with he music.

Mark Jones
Someone who loves posting on social media “im not a dude”, Jones drops beats off OWSLA music. She has an amazing creative mind and loves to be different. I just discovered her music and I am fixed.

Nina Las Vegas
A radio host, DJ and music producer has given Nina Agzarian (her real name) an amazing resumé before she spread out of her home country of Australia. Until 2014, she was the host of House Party on the Australian radio station Triple J, but now she runs NLV Records which already has a plethora of artists from Australia.

QUALIATIK
QUALIATIK does not stay silent about the issues of being a female in the industry. She advocates for equality while producing beautiful music for people to escape into. Below are some tweets that capture how she regularly thinks.

tINI
I love tINI because when she performs, she performs her sets with vinyls only. Her niche is performing at Sonar and BPM Festivals or the free events, ‘tINI & the Gang party’.
[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/97316729″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]
Gina Turner
Working currently at BPM on SiriusXM, Turner made a name for herself also spinning for iHeartRadio and Underground FG. She has music under the record labels Ministry of Sound, Ultra and Sound Pellegrino. A brilliant artist, and even if you haven’t noticed, big names have.

Nicole Moudaber
Traveling all over Europe, the Middle East and Africa, she makes a name for herself as people cheer on their “Techno’s Dark Queen”. She made her name in 2013 dropping Believe through MOOD Records and hasn’t let her moment stop since.

NERVO
NERVO has been playing huge festivals for a while. These two sisters were thrown way up into the crowd when they wrote with David Guetta on ‘When Love Takes Over’. Mim and Liv are able to sing, produce, and perform. One can be at the decks while the other is getting the crowd excited, witch and be completely fine taking over for the other.

Alison Wonderland
I discovered Wonderland last year. And I love it. She has such style and she is amazingly down to earth. Don’t forget her name, she will only get bigger. I cannot wait to see her own everything at Ultra.
It's international women's day every day tbh

Moist Breezy
She belongs behind the decks, playing amazing tracks that, “Moisturize your situation”. She is hilarious and wants everyone to have a good time. Make sure you follow her as she makes this continued climb up.

Maya Jane Coles
If you haven’t heard of Coles, then you need to get up on your knowledge. She has been playing festivals like Coachella, Tomorrowland, EDC and Glastonbury. Countless female DJ and producers give Coles credit for being a role model. Even with the big festivals under her belt, you will more than likely catch her on a small stage. She prefers to intimacy of a small venue or underground set up. Back in 2013 she dropped an album where she wrote, sang, performed, and produced. Other artists look up to her for good reason.

Carter Cruise
Addicted to candy, doing her thing with dubstep. She has no problem speaking her mind and has more fun, it seems, when stuff gets under people’s skin. Make sure you watch her actually do what she wants and perform live.
[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/238011748″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]
Ill-esha
As an MC, Vocalist, Sound designer, DJ, producer, and instrumentalist, there is nothing ill-esha cannot do. She can do it all and that prevents her from sticking to one genre. Definitely a must listen artist.
[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/playlists/164888356″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”450″ iframe=”true” /]
Mija
After playing a B2B at Bonnaroo with Skrillex in 2014, he made sure OWSLA noticed her Mija. Now, she is popping out of the music scene like no other and she loves all the traveling OWSLA is having her do.

Anna Lunoe
As a producer, DJ and singer this Australian was worker with well-known artists like Disclosure, Flume and the Weeknd. She has played HARD events like Ship 2 Ship and Holy Ship. Not only is she able to produce for big-name artists, but she is also able to DJ live sets while creating tracks that she does her own vocals on.

Ana Sia
Ana Sia loves getting dirty in her drops. She’s been k own to drop some glitch-hop powerhouses and gritty house music to get people moving. Ana Sia is an artist that needs to be watched to see what genre she will mess with next, or which genres she will add together for her next release.

Magda
I have to give a shout out to my fellow Polak. Now living living in the jungle of Detroit’s underground scene, she grew up from her days of learning how to produce from Richie Hawtin. Now, she is known as a founder of the record label Item & Things.
[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/207505545″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

Krewella
A lot of people have opinions about Krewella. But they are on the list because Yasmin and Jahan are two sisters who really care about their fans. I have watched them perform live, make fools of themselves, and go out of their way to make their fan’s experiences positive. I will definitely never forget how much I liked their music when I first got into dance music.

Cassy
Regularly working in the Panorama Bar in Berghain, Berlin, Germany; Cassy is a necessity to fans in Berlin. Working in this bar means that you are a top choice in the country, so having a regular slot gives Cassy a name to be reckoned with in Europe.

TOKiMONSTA
Not only does she have magic coming out of her Half Shadows album through Ultra Records, she was the first female on Brainfeeder records where she dropped her first LP in 2010. She has also done work on her own label, Young Arts Records, and created a L.A. Koreatown centered event; Spam n Eggs.

Nero
Ever wonder who the beautiful voice is singing for Nero? Alana Watson is the firl for you. This vocalist will make sure you hear her and wants all her fans to love music as much as she does.
The next time someone asks what girl is actually important in dance music make sure you take out this list. These artists are all the bomb, they are sweet, caring, and make sure the fans go before themselves.

This article only lists a portion of the many female artists in the female community. We are always looking for more artists, so if you know of an artist, vocalist, or record label that wasn’t listed, PLEASE comment below or mention any of the writers on twitter so we are able to learn about more artists. It is impossible to know or even list every artist that is out there so we need your help!
Personally, I love learning about new artists and listening to them but I need people to point them out to me!
