Over the last two days reports have been rife about Stereosonic being shut down for good, after two drug-related deaths at its 2015 events and the collapse of its mother company SFX Entertainment causing financial and media trouble for the event. It comes as no surprise given the cancellation of the competing Future Music Festival last year, and that the collapse of SFX meant that many key people in Totem Onelove (the company the puts Stereosonic on) left in the wake of that financial crisis.
However, there is good news – Stereosonic will be back in 2017 (according to a Facebook post on their page), and rumors are saying that the two original founders of Stereosonic are working on another event for the future (even though one of them has denied it). This may be false hope though, as five months ago Stereosonic announced that they’d definitely be back in 2016, and the rumors about another event are just rumors. Stay tuned for any more updates, and hopefully Australia gets its fair share of festivals well into the future.
