Officials in Argentina, this morning, released the confirmation that at least five individuals who attended the first night of the Time Warp Festival in Buenos Aires, Argentina died from drug-related deaths. At least five more individuals remain in critical after yesterday.
It is reported that two of the individuals who passed away, one 21 years old and one 25, died during the event with a third passing away while being transported to the hospital.
The head doctor of the Buenos Aires emergency medical team told Associated Press that, “We’ll see what substances they took.”
This number is an unprecedented death toll at a music festival. Attendees said that they were uncomfortable during the first day of the festival. There were claims of it being too cramped and extremely hot in the venue. Last night was day one of the two-day festival. The second day, which was supposed to be today, was cancelled by government officials due to the incident.
Time Warp was originally launched in 1994 in Germany. This was the third year it was in Buenos Aires. Further investigations will take place.
This is another example of the dangers of not being aware during festivals. Often, my festival posts end with a reminder to be aware of what you consume, what your surroundings are like, and what you are doing. As the weather gets warmer, we suggest a few things:
One, if you choose to consume substances to be careful what those substances are and how they interact with each other. Some chemicals have negative reactions compared to others, which I am sure you have seen people suffer from before.
Second, make sure you always drink water. Water is a key part to keeping yourself aware and away from dehydration. Substances react worse when you don’t have water in your system to level out chemical reactions.
Please keep the families of the victims in your prayers and hope for a recovery of the individuals currently in critical condition.
