Justin Prime has just released “Insane” and it is a true force to be reckoned with. Out now on Skink, (Showtek’s label), “Insane” is the perfect amount of hype and uptempo electro that keeps audiences energetic for the entire night. Previous collaborations include tracks with Blasterjaxx and Joey Dale, and official remixes for the likes of David Guetta, Rhianna, and more.
Justin Prime is poised to make his big break and “Insane” is just the start. We had the chance to sit down with Justin to talk about this release. Check out the interview below!
– First, mind introducing yourself to our readers?
Hey I’m Justin Prime, thanks for having me! 🙂
– How and why did you first get into producing electronic music?
I started producing music at the age of 15. I saw other dj’s playing on big parties and I knew that was something I wanted to do too. Nevertheless I also realized I had to produce my own tracks to be able to get booked for a show. Lucky for me I already played the piano since the age of 5, so that came in really handy. I have been producing hardstyle music for around 8 to 9 years before switching over to edm/house/pop music, and when I finally made that switch, I knew this is what I wanted to do.
– For you, what has it been like going from collaborations and remixes, to releasing your own originals?
It was a whole new process for me, because we used to do things differently back then. So remixing big artists together with everything that come’s along with it was something new to me.
– With 2016 already a third of the way through, what else can we expect for festival season and the rest of 2016?
My new record just came out today on Skink, it’s called “Insane”.. which I believe to be a real festival banger. And I’ve got a few new collabs coming up, and the first one is going to be out somewhere in June! That’s all I can say about it for now, so keep an eye on my socialmedia to stay informed! 😉
– What has the experience been like releasing “Insane” on Showtek’s label?
Their record label has been around for some time now, but this is actually my debut release on Skink and I’m really happy with the end result of the record.
– If you could work with any artist from past or present, who would it be and why?
I would like to work with a lot of people actually, as long as they are talented and have the same love and passion for music as I do. One of these talented producers I currently would like to work with is Mark Ronson. In my opinion he clearly is a musical genius.
– Producers are naturally super busy, but I’m always interested to know how you get out of the studio and find time for yourself?
Well, you’ll just have to find the perfect combination between touring and studiotime. That’s really something personal. The last few years I’ve been doing show after show after show.. That also resulted in less studiotime for me. And I’m not a type of guy who wants to hire a ghost producer to make my music. I’m way to proud for that, and believe too much in my own capabilities as a producer. Hell.. I produce music for other artists myself, so that would be weird 🙂 So right now I’m doing less shows, and I’m having more time in the studio which works perfect for me! I also think maintaining the right balance between your tourlife and your studio life makes you more happy. At least for me it does.
– Given that festival season is now upon us, is there one festival you would play given the chance?
I would love to play on EDC or Tomorrowland.
– Any advice for those up and coming Djs/Producers?
Read a lot of tutorials on google about mixing and mastering.. you can find them anywhere on the internet nowadays. Also get yourself some piano lessons, it will help you evolve musically wise.
– Final thoughts?
Again thanks for having me! And keep an eye on my social media for my upcoming music!
A huge thank you to Justin for sitting down with us and taking the time to answer our questions!
