We had the chance to sit down with Benjamin Carlisle, who you may recognize from the recent track that we posted of his! Below you’ll find the full interview as we look to see more of this Brooklyn-based producer. If you haven’t already, the link above will lead you directly to his “Love Me Like This (Icarus Mix)” which I think you’ll enjoy! Check out the interview below!
– First, mind introducing yourself to our readers?
Hey guys, my name is Benjamin Carlisle and I’m a producer living in Brooklyn, New York.
– How did you first get into producing electronic music?
I started playing drums at a young age. I needed a way to make sounds I could play along to. This led me to eventually start making full compositions in Ableton and Fl studio.
– Who would you say one of your biggest influences is?
It’s hard to pinpoint one artist. Growing up I would listen to alot of classic rock with my parents. Artists like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, the Beatles. Once I got access to the internet I started listening to a lot of electronic music. I remember the first electronic artist I really got into was a producer named S3RL.
– The track says (Icarus Mix), can you tell us what’s behind that?
The original instrumental “One”, caught interest from Insanity Records who introduced me to Icarus and eventually got the collaboration mix onto Subsoul. Working with Icarus on this track was a huge learning experience for me. Tom and Ian (Icarus) are incredible producers/songwriters.
– What can we expect from you for the rest of 2016?
I’m going to be releasing a lot of new music. Super excited to share it all!
I will definitely be playing some shows over the summer too!
– What is your absolute favorite thing to do, outside of the making music?
I would to say my favorite thing to do outside of making music is traveling and taking surf trips with my friends. Brooklyn is great, but the best part of living in New York is leaving.
– If you could play one festival, which would it be?
Tomorrowland would be pretty epic.
– Any advice for up and coming DJs/ Producers?
Just keep making the music that speaks to you. Its easy to get lost comparing yourself to other artists.
A special thanks to Benjamin for taking the time to answer our questions, we cannot wait to see what the rest of 2016 has in store for you!
