As much of a Drum and Bass fiend as I am, I’ve never found an artist of that genre from Africa. That’s changed, with Chee blasting his way to my attention with a solid and banging EP full of hard hitting Neurofunk. Every song goes way too hard to be reasonable, and on top of that there’s some serious creativity too. Demigod has a messed up swing mixed with Spor-standard heavy wubs, Not Safe somehow manages to be incredibly catchy, Obelisk is halftime (and 174) Neurofunk with atmospheric aspects, and Superposition is so glitched and stop-start that it’s a struggle to understand how it works so well. To be fair though, that applies to the whole EP: the production is so nuanced and creative that you wouldn’t think that it would work well, but it works really well. Prepare yourself for an onslaught of bass and get on this one, it’s big.
