Connection.
The start of this song brings a powerful in-ear sound with heavy bass and great progressive house sound. The music calms and the vocals fade in, soft but heavy with emotion. “Get your sticky fingers out of my head.” Normally a weird lyric, but with A&B nothing is ever weird, it’s always purposeful. What does it mean to you?
The ping pong effect adds a sense of urgency to the statement, it makes it more demanding and even slightly strained. The ambient white noise gives the feeling of deep space and a sense of importance to the lyrics. Again, nothing A&B does is by accident. I absolutely love Above & Beyond and the drop here is magnificent. Throwing back in the heavy bass with the airy pads just over the top really sells the image of deep space and the recurring theme of this demanding lyric. Right around the 4 minute mark the song changes tone and gets a bit heavier, darker, but it only adds to the connection that A&B develops throughout this incredible track. Well done. I will be listening to this one for years to come without a doubt.
