Electric Adventure 2016 Cancelled Due to Local Resistance

September 9, 2016 by Grant Austin

I just got word that Electric Adventure that was to return to Atlantic City was cancelled. This year’s event taking place on September 24th and 25th was going to be their 5th anniversary. It was their plan to move the festival to The Steel Pier to allow a “more efficient, safer for patrons, and state-of-the-art production.” Unfortunately, due to local businesses being resistant to the idea, the organizers of the festival had no choice but to shut down. This isn’t much of a surprise to me what-so-ever. Last year, Electric Adventure had a ton of great artists, but was a bit of a letdown.

Although, all their improvements that were featured this year were what we addressed last year. BeachGlow Music Festival did move back to Wildwood, New Jersey because there were more rules in Atlantic City as stated in our interview with them. That said, this is extremely upsetting. Atlantic City isn’t doing very well with the closing of the casinos and possible casinos in North Jersey. Here is the letter from Atlantic City Mayor Donald A Guardian.

This is what Electric Adventure Founder and President John Dimatteo had to say:

Dearest fans of Electric Adventure,
We regret to inform you that this year’s edition of EA has been cancelled due to circumstances beyond our control. We understand the frustration that you may be feeling and sincerely apologize for not being able to bring you the event that you deserve. In hindsight – that is what this cancellation is all about. With the event scheduled for a mere two weekends from now, we were forced to make a decision that we felt would be in the best interest for you – our loyal fanbase, the artists involved, and for our brand. We wanted to make our fifth year anniversary one to remember and ultimately realized that due to ongoing developments, this event wasn’t on par with your expectations and our aspirations. The Electric Adventure brand has grown immensely since it’s inception a few years ago and while this cancellation is undoubtedly a big disappointment for all, we can assure you that the wheels are already churning in planning a latter date for the event. Thank you sincerely for your patience, support, and understanding – we’ll be back before you know it. – John Dimatteo
The only thing I do not get from this scenario is that Don Guardian said they were trying to move to Arkansas Avenue. I am guessing it was South Arkansas Avenue being that’s the beach side. Also, Steel Pier is between South Maryland Avenue and South Pennsylvania Avenue. The former Wav Nightclub and the Pier is at South Arkansas Avenue. This year’s Electric Adventure was to feature Brillz, DVBBS, Electric Adventure, Grabbitz, Joyryde, Lady Faith, Marshmello. Bad Royale, Must Die!, Wiwek, and more. I guess we will never know what the issues over the disagreement were.
Refunds available at point of purchase.
