We’d like to thank Ian Munro for having a chat with us this week – having just released the seriously good “Stay Lit” EP on Quality Goods Records, we wanted to hear more about what makes this talent tick…
You’ve just dropped the wicked “Stay Lit” and we can’t get enough! How long did it take you to make from start to finish?
Thank you! I started the single “Stay Lit” with Adi Medici about a year ago and the rest of the EP had been in the works for almost the past 6 months or so. So it’s been along time coming, and it’s gone through way too many different versions to get to where it is now! Very glad it’s all finally all out for the world to hear, haha.
Have you got a personal favourite from the four tracks?
I have a pretty tragic love-hate relationship with most of my music so this is a hard one, but I’d have to say “Bout That” is one of my favourites off the EP. It has that blend between musical and obnoxiously heavy that I’ve really been pushing more in my music at the moment.
Which has been best received by fans? Have you played the EP out much?
I definitely try to play most of it – if not all of it when I play live! Although I’d have to say that “Bout That” and “Occult” definitely are the more ‘hype’ tracks on the EP, so naturally they have seen a little bit more reception from fans, especially when it comes to a live setting!

How has working with an artist like UZ at Quality Goods Records had an impact on your work? Will you be releasing through the label again?
The team at QGR are super supportive creatively and are focussed on pushing the next generation of artists, not trends -which I think is super important within the general climate of modern dance music. The whole vibe of how they work is incredible and I can’t wait to work with them more! I’ve got another release lined up very shortly with them, and then some more within the next year! So keep your eyes peeled.
If you could remix any tune in the world, what would you pick and why?
Ohhhhh I’d have to say “Touch The Sky” by Kanye and Lupe because THOSE HORNS THO.
In terms of emerging artists, whose music are you really feeling right now?
There’s so many dope up and comers right now, it’s crazy. I’d say I’m really feeling the stuff guys like Sysyi, Milano and DELAY are putting out right now. It’s some of the most consistently dope and interesting music I’ve heard in a while.
Finally, do you have any specific rituals or habits – either in the studio or behind the decks?
I don’t know why, but before every show I have to chew gum. I get mad stage fright still, so a little gum calms my nerves and keeps me from vomiting all over stage, haha. Also a good pre-show shit is for sure the vibe. I travel a lot for shows, and when I’m not I’m in between university and home – so I don’t typically have a stand alone studio to work in. Usually I just have to make do with what I’ve got and put in work!
