Where to even being with this one… Deadmau5 told us that he “slapped it together” and that “I don’t even like it.” Well, he may not like it but us here at By The Wavs are loving it!
“Imaginary Friends” has been floating around for quite some time now, even so much that ALOK got caught playing a pitched down Youtube rip of it at Tomorrowland Brasil. That track is easily one of the standouts alongside “4ware,” “Let Go (feat. Grabbitz),” and “Three Pound Chicken Wing”. I myself think that “Snowcone” should be the track of the album. Everything from its eerie and subtle lingering noises just make me love it. I imagine it being in an episode of Stranger Things at some point. “Deus Ex Machina” is another personal fave of mine. Its robotic and patient tempo pulls you in, and then hits you with that underlying bass.
For an album that Deadmau5 claims to have put together so quickly and nonchalantly, it is still a complete masterpiece and will easily fit into his past albums of mass success. I’m sort of really curious as to where Joel will go after this one. He did say the next one will be more of his style and much more thought will go into it. As for now, we await his Creamfields performance sharing the stage with Eric Prydz.
