As many of us prepared to end 2016 inside our favorite spaceship, alongside 20,000+ like-minded individuals; Bassheads from far and wide made their trek to the deep south of Birmingham, Alabama. As the thrills ran through our minds and chills were trickling down our spines on the way there, SOMA Entertainment had arranged what looked to be nothing short of an amazing pre-party for the 1700 of us lucky enough to snag tickets and attend.
With the night of the 30th fast approaching, everyone scrambled to make it to Old Car Heaven in time for one of the biggest and best up-and-comers in the industry, Levitation Jones. Upon arriving, the lines were horrendous to get in. Within minutes of seeing so many smiling faces and how genuinely happy everyone was just to be in Birmingham, the thought of the line and how long it was didn’t even matter (let’s be real though, it does take time to get 1700 people into a venue). Luckily, time flew by and before we knew it, we were inside.
Levitation Jones was already taking the crowd deep into the outer edges of space and had things well underway. Dropping unreleased tracks for our hearing pleasure Brian, better known by his stage name, Levitation Jones, had started a dimensional rift in the dance floor that once you got in, you were sure to be dancing the whole night away. With the weebles and wobbles in full swing, along with top notch production, the night was starting to get crazy with The Widdler up next. Keeping the amazing vibes going, he continued to keep the party live while moving the crowd in ways they never thought possible.
With G Jones up next, the crowd knew an already special night was about to get even crazier seeing as he had been in the studio for well over a month getting ready to melt our brains. While continuing to pulverize the dance floor, he dropped Helix. This resulted in the dimensional rift Levitation had caused earlier to turn into a black hole, which proceeded to suck us all in and take us on a ride around the galaxy before spitting everyone back out.
With one of a kind vendors to suit everyone’s needs, amazing production, and a beyond amazing crowd, this night set the stage for what turned out to be one of the craziest weekends in recent bass music history.
