Having released a steady slew of incredible music over the past few months, we thought it was only right to grab a few words with Dutch producer OIJ, and grill him on our exclusive 8 Questions…
1) Who are three of your all-time favourite artists, past or present?
Michael Jackson, James Blake and FKA Twigs which are all very unique artists that inspire me greatly.
2) Is there a particular tune that you have never got sick of?
I can always listen to Retrograde by James Blake or the OK Computer album by Radiohead. Big Pun’s Capital Punishment is also an old school favorite of mine. I could go on like this for a while…
3) Describe your perfect day…
A perfect day would be a day where we would start to turn back the effects of global warming and live in a fully sustainable world. However, to narrow it down to more of a day-to-day-perfect-day level: spend a part of the day in the studio writing new music and experimenting with sounds, followed by a show at night where the audience and myself feed on each other’s energy to take us to new highs.
4) What would people who know you well say about you in three words?
I would hope they would say I am caring, intelligent and creative, but am afraid they’ll actually say I’m crazy, odd and out of control.
5) Ideal studio layout…
I dont need much in a studio, just a properly working laptop with Ableton, a good midi keyboard and a nice mic and vocal chain gets me where I want to be. If I could add in some options I would like to have a nice view from inside the studio-room.
6) What is your most valued material possession?
I don’t really own anything that is of very high materialistic value, however I do cherish my external disk that contains all the samples I’ve collected over the years and all my Ableton project files.
7) Is there something musically you would like to do more of next year?
I’d love to keep releasing tracks frequently and do more collaborations with other artists.
8) Where do you want to be in 10 years?
I’d love to get into scoring movies. I already incorporate a lot of cinematic effects into my music and would love to take that to the next level.
