Burial is one of a small few artists who will change your life once you listen to his music, and more than enough of his fans will tell you that that’s not joke. After releasing two albums in the space of one and a half years around 2006-2007, Burial then went on to start releasing an EP and single roughly every year up until 2013, when there was an abrupt radio silence. That ended in classic understated style with a feature on Zomby’s album Ultra earlier this year, but now he’s well and truly broken his dry spell of releases nearly three years since his most recent release.
Two songs, Young Death, and Nightmarket, make up this release, and they’re both classic Burial. Dark, moody and especially textured, each song takes you on an emotional journey through your thoughts. There’s more than enough time across the two songs to sit back and take in the feelings put into his music, with Young Death feeling more like a traditional “song” more than Nightmarket, which is more so synth patterns interspersed with sections of just effects and samples. Nonetheless, each of these songs need to be listened to in full to gain an appreciation of what Burial is all about, which you can do at Burial’s Bandcamp page.
