Burning Man is looking to expand their experience outside of the previous Burning Man event. This past Friday, Burning Man announced that they have purchased Fly Ranch, a 3,800-acre plot of land, which sits 21 miles north of Gerlach, Nevada. The hopes for this new location is to, “amplify and extend the culture born from the Burning Man event into the larger world”.
While Black Rock City, which is the current home of Burning Man, will not be relocating to this site, there are hopes for great things from this experience. There will now be capabilities for a year-long opportunity for community and activities.
Fly Ranch is home to a diverse landscape. There are 640 acres of wetlands, multiple natural spring-water pools of varying temperatures, grasslands covered in sagebrush and land that opens onto the Hualapai Flat Valley. On the plot of land is Fly Geyser, a geothermal geyser that shoots water up to five feet in the air.
The purchase cot $6.5 million and was funded by private donations from past and present “Burners”.
Oh look, a year-round place to get weird. https://t.co/MoiVNwrhpD pic.twitter.com/WdAHAAzYj8
