City of Orlando to Turn Pulse Nightclub into a Memorial

November 10, 2016 by Grant Austin

On June 12th, 2016 one of the worst mass shootings took place at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Florida. This literally broke my heart. It broke all of our hearts. We were metaphorically, emotionally, and physically crushed. Many have done great things in wake of such a terrible situation. The EDM Family, our former sister site, helped raise $1,000 for the cause. Now, the city of Orlando has negotiated a deal to purchase Pulse Nightclub for $2.25 million and turn it into a memorial. Mayor Buddy Dyer had this to say.

The Pulse nightclub is the site of the most tragic event that has ever occurred in the history of the City of Orlando. It has great significance, not just for the LGBTQ community and the Hispanic community, but for all of us who live in and love Orlando. I believe that it is important that our community is a part of determining the future of the Pulse site. To start this process, the City of Orlando has entered into a contract to purchase the land on South Orange Avenue.

On top of purchasing the club, the city has partnered with the Orange County Regional History Center to collect and preserve letters, notes, signs and other tribute items from public memorials in Orlando.  As of yet, details about the timeline and location of the memorial have not been figured out yet.
